Proper pH balance is an essential part of pool maintenance. The recommended range is 7.2 – 7.6. If the pH of your pool is high (above 7.7), the water will be alkaline and the chlorine sanitizer is unable to sanitize your pool effectively. This phenomenon is usually detected by high amounts of chloramines in the water which give off a pungent chlorine smell. The water tends to be cloudy and eye irritation may develop. Calcium scale build-up may also occur.
Directions:Â One capful of pH Down holds approximately 30 g. When test readings indicate a pH above 7.7, add pH Down by broadcasting it across the pool surface according to the table below:
Dissolve pH Down in water before adding to pool. Disperse dissolved pH Down around perimeter of the pool to thoroughly disperse in the pool water. Allow filter and pump to circulate pool water for 30 minutes before swimming. Wait four hours before retesting pH to determine if pH is within recommended range.
