Please note: Drop-in steps are to be removed by the homeowner prior to our service visit. For some drop-in step styles, if handrails are removable, the stairs can be left in place.

** All chemicals and parts provided by The Pool Shoppe necessary to complete the closing will be charged for at an additional cost; if chemistry changes to be made are too great, the closing service may need to be rescheduled, and a Water Test & Adjust service fee will be charged

Prepare for Closing Day checklist:

  • One week before Closing Day, please bring a water sample to The Pool Shoppe to be tested to ensure water balance.

  • Chemically cleaning your filter sand is best done before Closing Day.

  • Keep the pump running and the pool clean until we arrive to close your pool. We expect to complete a maintenance level vacuum; if extra debris load, there will be an extra cost to clean and potential for reschedule of the closing service.

  • Ensure that power and water are on and accessible for the closing crew.

  • Ensure that your winter cover and closing accessories are out and accessible by the closing crew. Our trucks are fully stocked with gizmos, plugs, water bags, etc. if required. All chemicals and parts provided by The Pool Shoppe necessary to complete the closing will be charged for at an additional cost; if chemistry changes to be made are too great, the closing service may need to be rescheduled.

Securing the winter cover

Winds and weather systems may affect how the cover was secured. We cannot guarantee any type of winter cover to stay fully secured all winter long. We do offer different options for weight ballasts or cover wrap for above-ground and water-bag style covers. Please contact us for more information.

Sump well

For inground pools built with a sump well for ground water, monitor the water in your sump well all winter and spring to control the groundwater around your pool.

Filter

Consider soaking your cartridge filter(s) to clean them for a fresh start to the new season. We also offer an Off-Site Filter Soak Service, email us for more information.

Salt cell

If advised, a deep soaking of your cell may be required. In-Shoppe we sell salt cell stands and solutions for cleaning.

Accumulating water

With heavy snow melt and spring rains, be aware of and control pooling water around your above ground pool base. This excess water saturates the ground and with freeze and thaw temperatures, this will affect the level of your pool posts.

It’s important to know how your winter cover is sitting on your pool at this time of year.
