When considering a heat source for your pool, you only have to look up to realize the primary benefit of solar heat – it’s free heat from the sun! With uncertainty and rising costs in the gas and power markets, the price for solar will not change. It will be free for life.

Using your existing pump and filter, our easy-to-install solar pool heater ensures warmer pool temperatures, no monthly heating bills, and is proven to be the most cost effective way to heat your pool. Get the most out of your pool by extending the swimming season and have more fun–courtesy of the sun!

Enersol Solar Pool Heaters are made for ‘do-it-yourself’ installation. With our easy to follow video and simple instruction manual, the system can be up and running in a weekend. No gas or electrical inspectors to deal with! It is so versatile it can be put anywhere the sun shines. The ‘do-it-yourself’ kit is easily installed on the roof of your home or pool change room, off the deck, beside the pool or on the ground. The most durable and longest lasting solar panels on the market, our Solarprene® rubber is completely resistant to pool chemicals, harsh U.V. rays, cold Canadian winters and the hottest Florida summers.

How It Works

Pool water is pumped using your exisiting pool pump to the Enersol Solar Pool Heater panels. The sun’s rays heat the water in the panels, then the heated water is returned to your pool.

Sizing Guide and Installation Information

The number of solar panels required to increase the pool temperature approximately 10 – 15 Degrees Celsius above air temperature is dependent on the size of your pool. The table below indicates the number of solar panel boxes required for your size pool to achieve these results similar to that of a gas heater on a sunny day– so warm, you will need to turn them off! However, don’t be discouraged if you cannot provide the surface area in the charts below. Most pools will achieve increased temperatures with only 2 or 3 kits. Enersol provides panel kits with either 4′ x 8′ systems (32 sq. ft) or 4′ x 10′ systems (40 sq. ft). Kits can then be connected together to increase your square footage and exposure to the sun. Custom length panels are also available by special order when necessary.

Frequently Asked Questions

Winterization for your system must be done after your pool is closed. Follow these steps before freezing temperatures occur.

  1. 3 way valves MUST be turned so that all three ports are open. On motorized valves, turn switch to TEST. Let the valve turn halfway between and off. Pull out the electrical cord. This will prevent water from becoming trapped in the valve.
  2. Look for any threaded, removable end-caps on the roof and open them.
  3. Open all end caps at down pipes, pump house and blow any underground lines. Generally, make sure that no water remains in any low pipes, sags in pipes, valleys or any part of the system. Re-attach the end caps to ensure that nothing gets into the headers during the winter. WITHOUT DISTURBING THE TOP AND BOTTOM ROWS OF HEADERS, work your way along the panels and gently lift the rubber from top to bottom. If in doubt, you can open a section and drain out excess water. Only blowing the headers out with a shop vac, or compressor may NOT remove water properly.
  4. A general inspection of the roof at this time is wise. Check for loose lag bolts and strapping. Remove leaves and debris that might block the run-off of rain or snow.
When the system is exposed to temperatures in excess of 150F and water IS NOT circulating through the system, the use of a DRAIN DOWN VALVE and a ONE WAY CHECK VALVE is necessary. It is important to remember that in prolonged periods of inactivity, the system MUST BE DRY. Non-circulating water left in extreme heat over extended periods of time may become stagnant and promote bacterial growth.
The 1ft x 10ft panels weigh 9lbs dry and 16lbs when full of water.

The 1ft x 8ft panels weigh 8lbs dry and 12lbs when full of water.

Based on lab conditions over a 10 hour day in Florida using a 4′ x 10′ panel:

814 BTUs per square foot were produced.

A properly sized system can increase your pool temperature by 2-3 degrees for each cycle (all pool water passing through the solar system). Depending on your pump the system may cycle 4-6 times per day.
When you set up your system, we recommend that you put no more than 28 boxes (28 panels at 1ft each) in each array.

If your pool requires more than 28 boxes set them up in equal arrays piped in parallel. For example 40 boxes should be set up in two arrays of 20 boxes each. If you are setting up multiple arrays this will require plumbing extra parts, not included in your system kit. For each array you will need 2 caps.

Each system kit comes with 2 end caps, so order extra end caps as required for your system.

When you purchase ENERSOL panels, a system kit is necessary to assemble the panels. Only one kit per installation is required. Some tools that are useful: variable speed drill, 3/8inch socket driver, chalk line, Teflon tape, level, tape measure, hacksaw, utility knife, caulking gun, ladder and safety equipment. Additional parts required: PVC heavy bodied cement, 1-1/2inch or 2inch plumbing (elbows, tees, couplers, pipe and pipe hold downs), extra lag bolts, 3-way valve, or automatic controller, one way check valve.

If your panels are glued at each end of the array the easiest way to add panels is to insert the new sections in the middle of the existing system. Basically one end of the system will be shifted over to make room for the new sections. Deciding whether to shift the feed or return end will depend on the system configuration.

To begin, take out the last bolt on each line of strapping, then remove the first clip in from the end on the top and bottom header line. Using the orange installation tool, separate the headers at these points. A single section with an end cap at one end and piping on the other end should be left. Make a cut in a long straight portion of the piping , where an coupler can later easily be inserted. Remove the last header strap and remove the last section from the system. Bring in the new sections and install as you would in a new system, putting header straps every two headers and extending long strapping. Remember to keep the new mods angled for drainage. Finally attach the last section removed from the original system strapping it in with the other sections and make the necessary plumbing connection to close the gap in the pipe made by the system extension.

Note: when adding to an existing array you are still limited to 28ft x 1ft sections/array.

If your system has a manual valve and you decide to add an automatic controller, simply attach the actuator to the manual valve with the supplied screws and follow the instructions for the control box wiring and the roof and water sensor.
Our panels are the most durable solar panel on the market. Our core material is advanced Solarprene, resistant to UV rays, chemicals and ozone.
